Moab Adaptive Computing Suite Administrator's Guide 5.4

2.9 Standby Resources

Some organizations may want to set up a single over-arching batch system that encompasses local, grid, and utility computing resources. This allows local users to use a single method to submit all workload regardless of resource location or configuration, thus simplifying their experience and improving their overall productivity.

However, by default, the scheduler will not display non-existent resources to the end-user and will, in fact, reject jobs that have been submitted that do not have feasible destination resources. The Moab standby node feature allows an organization to reflect its ability to dynamically allocate and provision utility resources to its end-users, indicating which resources can be allocated and how quickly they can be available. This allows the end-user and the scheduler to better plan for the use of these resources, and it presents a consistent picture of resource availability to all users involved.
