5.2.3 Configuring the Hypervisor Allocation Overcommit policy
Viewpoint allows you to modify the settings of the Hypervisor Allocation Overcomit policy, which allows you to allocate more memory and processor resources to VMs than actually physically exist on their hypervisor.
To configure the Hypervisor Allocation Overcommit policy
- If it is not already turned on, turn on the policy (see Turning Policies On and Off).
- Configure your Allocation Settings. To do so, determine the processor utilization threshold for VM migration, remembering that higher numbers increase the risk of allowing more VMs than the hypervisor can handle. The slider tool allows you to specify how low or high the threshold is and calculates the numbers for you.

- To configure the numbers manually, check the Custom settings box and use either the integer text fields or the arrow buttons. The numbers are percentages. For example, if you specify 300 in the utilized processor field, then up to three times (300%) of the utilized processors can be allocated at once.
- Once the desired settings are in place, click Save.
