Configuring Viewpoint > Configuring Viewpoint through the interface

2.1 Configuring Viewpoint through the interface

When you use the interface to configure Viewpoint, Viewpoint automatically writes the necessary code into the configuration files as you submit the forms. Viewpoint also synchronizes the files with the database so that the information can be contained in the application rather than in the configuration files. If a conflict occurs during synchronization, information in the files takes precedence over the information in the database.

Configuration through the interface is for clean installations only. Upgrades must be done manually. See Manually configuring Viewpoint.

Whenever Viewpoint writes to the configuration files, you will lose all your comments and formatting. Remember to always back up your configuration files before configuring anything in the interface.

You can make changes manually in the configuration files in addition to using configuration in the Viewpoint interface; however, this cannot be done at the same time. The configuration files must not be opened outside of Viewpoint when you are making updates via the user interface.

To configure Moab Viewpoint using the user interface

  1. Give any desired Viewpoint users access to Moab. See Configuring Viewpoint Users in Moab.
  2. Open Viewpoint in a browser using the following URL: http://[localhost]:8080/moab. Log in with the default User name and Password (admin/admin). For information about changing the default password, see Changing user passwords.
  3. Click on the Configuration link on the top navigation bar.
  4. The Config Home page contains a list of configuration categories on the right with their current statuses. If an error appears beneath a category, click on the error message to open the corresponding configuration page. You can also navigate to each configuration page using the links on the left as described in steps 4-9.

  10. Set up the connection to Moab. See Connecting to Moab via the interface.
  11. When you are redirected to Config Home, verify that no errors are present in your configuration. If an error does appear under one of the categories, click the error message to be taken back to the configuration page and make any necessary modifications.
  12. To configure different security type from the default (Viewpoint security automatically installs with viewpointLoginModule with a username of admin and a password of admin), see Using ViewpointLoginModule.
  13. (Optional) Configure Moab Accounting Manager to be accessible through Viewpoint. See Configuring Moab Accounting Manager in Viewpoint.
  14. (Optional) Configure Viewpoint to run the VM Lifecycle and Events reports. See Configuring Viewpoint to run the Events report.
